Latvia from February 24 will lower the level of diplomatic relations with Russia. As the head of the country’s Foreign Ministry, Edgar Rinkevich, said on his social networks, Latvia made such a decision as a sign of solidarity with Estonia, demanding that Russia act accordingly.

The reason for such measures is the situation in Ukraine.

Earlier, we add, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement about lowering the level of diplomatic relations with Estonia. The department explained that the Estonian authorities have taken a new unfriendly step to radically reduce the size of the Russian embassy in Tallinn. In Moscow, this was considered confirmation of the line towards the collapse of relations between the countries.

As a response, the Russian side decided to downgrade the diplomatic representative in both countries to charge d’affaires. Thus, Estonian Ambassador Margus Laidre must leave Russia on February 7th. In turn, the Russian diplomatic representative in Estonia, Vladimir Lipaev, will also have to leave the country on February 7.
