Oncologists: Symptoms indicating esophageal cancer can occur while eating and drinking

Experts from the British organization for cancer research Cancer Research UK told what symptoms can be manifested by esophageal cancer – a malignant disease, the cases of which have been steadily increasing in recent years. According to the British edition of The Sun, oncologists stated that such symptoms can occur while eating and drinking.

Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). This condition often causes coughing or choking while eating or drinking, and it also feels like the food is stuck in the throat or chest. In addition, there may be increased salivation.

Heartburn and indigestion. The feeling of heartburn for several days, which haunts a person for three or more weeks, is a serious reason to see a doctor, since this symptom can be observed with esophageal cancer. In addition, the sick person may experience a feeling of indigestion, in which there is pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen (dyspepsia). Acid reflux is also possible with the reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus or into the respiratory tract with a characteristic sour taste in the mouth and nose.

Unexplained weight loss. Combined with loss of appetite, unexplained weight loss can also be a sign of esophageal cancer. Approximately half of patients experience this symptom, which may be due to the fact that they eat less due to difficulty swallowing.

Pain in the throat or behind the breastbone. In addition to difficulty swallowing, pain can occur, sometimes perceived as a burning sensation. It may be felt in the back, behind the sternum, or between the shoulder blades, worse when swallowing.

Among other likely symptoms of esophageal cancer, Cancer Research UK highlights incessant coughing or coughing, hoarseness, blood in sputum, dark stools.
