114 people sanctioned for violating the Pico y Placa during the morning

The fines were imposed on those who did not respect the vehicle restriction between 05:00 to 10:00.

The Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) of Quito began this November 8 to apply fines to drivers who do not respect the Pico y Placa vehicle restriction. During the first five hours of the measurement, between 05:00 and 10:00, 114 people were sanctioned, according to a balance of the institution.

In the afternoon, the vehicle restriction applies from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. The circulation of motor vehicles is limited according to the last digit of the plate. Plates ending in 1 and 2 cannot be circulated on Mondays; Tuesday, 3 and 4; Wednesday, 5 and 6, Thursday 7 and 8; and on Friday, 9 and 0. There is free movement on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Economic sanctions are established in accordance with the unified basic salary (SBU). The first time the foul is committed the driver will receive a fine of 15% of salary, which equals $ 60; the second time corresponds to 25% of the SUB, that is, $ 100; and the third recidivism the penalty is 50% of the SBU ($ 200).

The AMT explained that in all cases, whether it is the first or third time, the vehicles are transferred to the Vehicle Retention Centers.

With the beginning of the Pico y Placa, the Municipality of Quito reactivated three public border parking lots, with a capacity of 460 seats, where drivers can leave their cars during the hours that the restriction applies.

Parking lots They are free and work from 04:00 to 22:00, Monday to Friday:

  • The County: located on Camilo Guachamín and La Esperanza streets.
  • Cuscungo: located on the General Rumiñahui Highway.
  • Zambiza: located on Avenida De Las Palmeras and El Inca. (I)
