Today, the official led the meeting of the Unified Command Center, which was also attended by high-ranking members of the security forces.

There, the authorities mentioned that from January to October of this year the National Police managed to seize 159,9 tons of drugs, the highest annual figure in the country’s statistical records. That number continues to rise with recent seizures. For example, north of Manta, occupants of a boat threw about a ton of drugs into the water after being discovered by Navy personnel who were guarding that maritime zone last Sunday night.

The results obtained in Guayas include 18 dismantled gangs, 51 people arrested for different crimes, 3,294 kilograms of drugs seized, 260 motorcycles seized and 115 firearms seized.

During this period of state of emergency, 40,279 operations have been carried out with the support of the Police, Armed Forces and transit entities in the province of Guayas, which include 237,792 vehicle searches and 297,392 records of citizens.

The operations that have military support are mainly focused on the control of arms, ammunition and explosives in areas considered “hot” due to the high incidence of crime. (I)
