Russian tour operators note an increase in the number of requests for summer tours to Russia from Chinese tourists. According to Interfax with reference to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, the first groups are expected in February.
“According to the travel companies, they are already receiving requests to organize group tours in the summer to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Kazan, Baikal, Vladivostok and Kamchatka,” the press release says.
“The first groups can arrive in Russia as early as February-March, as there is interest in resuming the flow of tourists from both the Russian and Chinese sides. The fact that Russia accepts cards from the Chinese payment system UnionPay will also play in favor of restoring the incoming flow from China,” ATOR said.
The industry expects that the recovery of tourism from China will improve the situation in Russian inbound tourism, since before the pandemic it was the largest supplier of tourists.
“Now the inbound tourist flow to Russia from China is practically zero. Its resumption will provide a load for hotels, museums, catering, tour operators, carriers, and retailers. In general, the opening of the direction will have a positive effect, ”the tour operators say.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China on January 20 announced the resumption of group tourism from February 6 in a number of destinations. This measure will affect Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, UAE, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Russia, Switzerland, Hungary, New Zealand, Fiji, Cuba and Argentina.
