Turkish authorities have canceled a visit by Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson on January 27 as it “doesn’t make sense anymore,” Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said.
According to Anadolu, Akar stressed that “at the moment, the visit of the Minister of Defense of Sweden [Пола] Jonson to Turkey on January 27 ceased to matter.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan admitted the possibility of a deterioration in relations with Sweden, since it does not extradite PKK supporters to Ankara and does not prevent their actions. According to him, the extradition of about 130 members of the organization is a “mandatory condition” for Turkey to support the country’s application to join NATO, which Sweden submitted last May together with Finland. Ankara noted that it has no complaints about Helsinki’s application, but it has questions about complicity with “terrorism” towards Stockholm.
The head of the Swedish government, Ulf Kristersson, said on January 8 that his country had fulfilled all the promises, but some conditions could not be fulfilled, because “they demand what we cannot and do not want to give them.” In particular, he pointed out the impossibility of extraditing Swedish citizens to another country.
