The strong winter season takes its toll on the roads in the western sector of the provinces of Carchi and Imbabura. Traffic on the Ibarra – San Lorenzo highway, which connects the northern Sierra with the coastal strip of Esmeraldas, was affected by a landslide early on Saturday 21.
The interruption of traffic occurred in the Guadual sector, at kilometer 114. The Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) carried out the rehabilitation work on this road at that site.
Residents of Palo Amarrillo reported that two landslides disabled a lane of this artery.

Transporters who use this artery, which allows the exchange of products and food between the cold and warm floors, indicated that rocky material continues to detach at that site. For this reason, frequent users must take the corresponding preventive measures.
Vehicles that were stuck on both sides of the road, after the expulsion of stones, plant material and mud from the road, managed to overcome the natural obstacles that fell from the top of the mountain.
