A gang of criminals dedicated mainly to cell phone theft was arrested at midnight on Friday.
Around 10:00 p.m. they robbed their victims; but, when tracking the cell phone through an application, the Police found the lair of the antisocials.
María, one of the victims, said that around 10:00 p.m., when she was a few meters from arriving at her house, located on Diez de Agosto avenue, in the south of Cuenca, she was intercepted by four men who were moving in two motorcycles.

One of them got out and, after pointing a firearm at her and her boyfriend’s head, demanded their belongings. Frightened, what they did was throw the devices to the ground and let them take them away.
He said that, after overcoming the panic, they began to search for the phone through another device and realized that it was in the area known as Circo Social, in the extreme south of the city, so they immediately contacted the Police. , who began to track these subjects until they were caught.
Mario Vargas, chief in charge of the Cuenca Sur Police District, said that seven high-end cell phones, a firearm known as a “cartuchera” and two motorcycles were found in the possession of the criminals. In addition, in the middle of the operation, one of the four suspects escaped.
When doing a first review of the terminals, they found some photographs that seemed very suspicious, including those of the uniformed officers forming or leaving to work from the Community Police Unit (UPC) near their guard, which, according to Vargas, it would be a kind of counterintelligence to know their schedules and, with it, plan their misdeeds.
At first, the three arrested were retained in the UPC of the sector; and, after reading their rights, they were taken to the Judicial Complex, waiting for a flagrante delicto hearing.
But minutes before that, the victims arrived at the site, who recognized them and without hesitation went to the Prosecutor’s Office on duty to file their complaint. This, for Vargas, is important, because in a certain way it guarantees that they will be detained for some time and the act will not go unpunished.
Finally, José, the other victim, recommended that, to track cell phones in case of theft, you must always have the “location” option enabled, as well as have an email. In this way it is accessed from any device through the mail and the location is immediate. (YO)
