There can be no winners in a nuclear war, Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, told Fox News TV channel, commenting on a statement by Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council.

Grossi stressed that he “does not pass judgment on the comments of high-ranking officials of any country”, but considers nuclear war unacceptable. “One of the ways to avoid it is to prevent nuclear accidents. Of course, I hope that nuclear weapons will not be used in this conflict,” he added.

Earlier, the US State Department reacted to Medvedev’s words with a similar statement, the department’s deputy spokesman Vedant Patel called “provocative rhetoric” on the nuclear issue “not only dangerous, but also reckless.”

Recall that the day before, Dmitry Medvedev wrote in his Telegram channel that the West’s desire to achieve Russia’s loss in Ukraine could lead to irreparable consequences, including provoking a nuclear war.
