The Anti-Corruption Parliamentary Front, this January 19, delivered to the State Attorney General’s Office new documentation of three cases of candidates for mayors and councilors that would have links to events related to drug trafficking and illegal activities.
One is Wagner Castillo Cortez, who for the Revolución Ciudadana movement is a candidate for councilor in the Rioverde canton, in the province of Esmeraldas, and according to national assemblyman Fernando Villavicenciowho presented the case, the applicant was prosecuted in 2015 for the crime of murder and is facing drug trafficking charges, and his mother’s brother, César Jurado Cortez, was extradited to the United States from Colombia, accused of drug trafficking.
Legislator Sofía Sánchez, from the Pachakutik movement, He reported to the Prosecutor’s Office the possible connections of criminal organizations that would be laundering their assets in political campaigns.
He spoke about the case of Jonnathan Gutama Gutama, candidate for the Democratic Left (ID) for the first vowel of the Molleturo Parish Council, who also owns a nightlife called El Trébol.
The candidate Gutama, together with Wilman Hermidas Bermeo Escandón, according to Sánchez’s complaint, would be part of a migrant smuggling network in Azuay that operates in the Cuenca canton, Ponce Enríquez and the Molleturo parish. This citizen has more than ten judicial processes, of which five are complaints for the smuggling of migrants.
In addition, the complaint indicates that Dennys Sharine Bermeo, daughter of Wilman Bermeo, is a candidate for the rural councilorship of the Cuenca canton for the Democratic Left party.
Legislator Ricardo Vanegas, from the Pachakutik bloc, assured that the Parliamentary Front is not afraid of the fight against drug trafficking and its links to politics, but that two things are worrying.
The first: that the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, told the country that he was going to deliver a list of drug politicians and even when they had a meeting in Carondelet, he said that the Minister of the Interior was going to present the list that contains a route investigation carried out by the Armed Forces and the National Police.
What is the fear that the Government has, asked Vanegas, to reveal the names or who they are protecting who do not reveal the list. That among those indicated in the complaint filed with the State Attorney General’s Office there are government candidates, the national legislator affirmed.
He said that this sector of legislators waits until next week for President Guillermo Lasso to present the names, and “if he does not do it until next week, we will proceed to deliver a new list, we will not be intimidated,” he stressed.
Hopefully that social Christian-correista legislative majority, which is determined to investigate the issue of the “Great Godfather”, manages to understand that more serious than that is the drug trafficking that they are protecting, since “it has not even occurred to them to form an occasional commission to investigate his friends who are candidates for different dignities, and some of whom we know are our companions in the Assembly; we are not going to go back, ”he said.
Vanegas announced that next week they will present a report to the Prosecutor’s Office in which it is determined that the Naval Force has not exercised control to prevent drug trafficking by sea and that it contains details about the links of sailors with drug trafficking and how the radars in boats are useless.
