Three active duty police officers were arrested while trying to bring firearms into the Turi Deprivation of Liberty Center (CPL), located in the south of Cuenca. The uniformed men carried a rifle and a pistol, but were surprised in the security filter.
The arrest of the gendarmes occurred this Wednesday afternoon, confirmed the head of the Azuay subzone, Hugo Arroyo, who also explained that his subordinates in the rank of second sergeant and second corporal carried a 223 caliber rifle and a 9 mm pistol.

The first weapon is considered for close range combat. After being initially surprised by the security cameras and later by their own colleagues, they were taken to the Azuay Judicial Complex to be legally processed.
He also explained that they provided their services in this prison, where a violent death occurred last Tuesday when two inmates severely beat another who was a few hours away from regaining his freedom and for this reason he was taken to the hospital, where he died of of a cardiorespiratory arrest.
Arroyo pointed out that two procedures will be followed to punish the police, on the one hand the criminal charge of the Azuay Prosecutor’s Office and another internal administrative one.

In addition to this arrest, another policeman was detained during an operation coordinated by the Unit to Fight Organized Crime (ULCO) with a previous six-month study, according to the head of the Azuay subzone, Hugo Arroyo.
