Registration is open for students who want to participate in the World Cup of Informatics

The Ecuadorian Computer Olympiad (OIEC) is in charge of detecting, training and preparing the talents that make up the teams that represent the country in various competitions, the most important being the World Cup in Informatics (IOI). This non-profit organization’s fundamental purpose is to promote the study of Computer Science in a creative, reasoned, and imaginative way.stimulating and developing the ability to solve problems among young people.

It is because of that, In this new opportunity they open their registrations completely free of charge so that students who wish to participate can register at two levels:

  • Level 1: Regularly enrolled students from any educational institution may participate from 1st year of high school to December 1st of the year of the competition.
  • Level 2: Regularly enrolled students from any educational institution may participate up to 3rd year of high school by December 1 of the year of the competition.

Those interested in participating must meet certain basic requirements such as: be Ecuadorian or a regular student of any educational institution of secondary education that operates within the Ecuadorian national territory. Likewise, they must have a basic knowledge in mathematics, including topics such as arithmetic, geometry, functions, logic, combinatorics, graphs and proofsand basic knowledge of one of the following programming languages: C, C++, Java, Python, Ruby, C#, Pascal, Haskell, or Lua.

competition It will be composed of two phases that consist of solving various computational problems, which require ingenious resolution and implementation techniques.. The resolution of these problems will be done through the omegaUp.com skills platform

The The first phase will take place on Saturday, October 29. and will have a maximum duration of 3 hours. The platform will be enabled from 09:00 to 12:00 (GMT -5). It will have a maximum of 10 problems, with a maximum score of 100 points per problem solved correctly. The best competitors from the first phase will advance to the second phase.

The second phase will take place on Saturday, November 19 and will last a maximum of 4 hours. The platform will be enabled from 09:00 to 13:00 (GMT -5). and will have a maximum of 5 problems, with a maximum score of 100 points in each one. This applies to both levels of competition.

The winners will be selected by a jury appointed by the OIEC Academic Department and will be made up of IT specialists and trainers. of recognized national and international prestige and professional qualification. The courts of each problem will prepare the test cases of the same to be approved by the qualifying jury.

The winners of these Olympics they will have the possibility of integrating the teams that will represent Ecuador in the different international competitions to which our country is invited. In the same way, diplomas and medals will be awarded to the first individual places, according to the performance and results in the Final Phase according to this proportion: for every 1 gold medal awarded, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals will be awarded. Additionally, and to promote the study of Computer Science in women, the students with the best performance in the final phase of the National Olympiad will also receive awards.
