PSC will not support the removal of the President of the Republic outside the constitutional framework

The political party on list 6 met this Sunday, November 7, to take a position on the report of Pandora’s papers.

The Social Christian Party in a statement announced that it will not support the removal of a president of the Republic outside of the Constitution and the Law, in response to the report presented by the Constitutional Guarantees Commission of the National Assembly on the so-called Pandora papers.

That report, approved with six votes by Pachakutik and Unión por la Esperanza, determined that the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, breached the ethical pact consecrated by popular consultation in 2017 and that is related to the prohibition to exercise public office to the direct or indirect owners of assets or capital directly or indirectly in tax havens.

The plenary session of the National Assembly commissioned the Constitutional Guarantees Commission to carry out an investigation after the publication of a leak of files published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, where the first president is appointed regarding links with trusts located in countries considered tax havens. The report was approved on November 5.

Report on Pandora’s papers of the Legislative Commission affirms that Guillermo Lasso did not observe the ethical pact approved in popular consultation

The PSC warns that the noisy case of Pandora’s papers can have serious consequences, not only for the President of the Republic, but for all Ecuadorians.

That if the commission’s report on the President of the Republic and Pandora’s papers is carefully analyzed, it refers in several parts to an alleged case of internal commotion. That cause, for the PSC, is not applicable to this case, according to two rulings of the Constitutional Court, which define the internal commotion and which are public knowledge.

What the plenary session of the National Assembly can do, indicates the party on list 6, is to send, if it considers that there are sufficient merits, the respective documentation to the authorities and competent bodies so that they act in accordance with the law.

This political sector that has fourteen votes in the Assembly ratifies that it will oppose the creation or increase of taxes, because they threaten the growth and prosperity of Ecuadorians, but that this attitude will never be a pretext to violate the rule of law.

That they will continue to demand that the commitments that they jointly with the President of the Republic acquired with the Ecuadorian people be fulfilled, but that they will do so without destabilizing democracy.

It considers that the plenary session of the National Assembly can remove any president of the Republic, but only when his behavior is framed in the causes established in article 130 of the Constitution: arrogance of functions and serious political crisis and internal commotion. And the plenary can also politically prosecute a President of the Republic in the cases provided for in Article 129 of the Constitution.

The collective prosperity that Ecuadorians deserve is not achieved by creating more chaos, reiterates the PSC. (I)
