Salinas boardwalk is closed due to strong waves

The Salinas boardwalk is closed due to strong waves and the presence of mounds of sand that have formed on the main avenue of this resort in the province of Santa Elena.

Municipal machinery was not enough to remove it. This Wednesday, the waves exceeded five meters in height.

The water flooded some sections of the boardwalk and caused the craftsmen not to attend to the users.

Swell since January 17 could exceed that of days past in continental Ecuador, warns Inocar

Several restaurant owners also closed their doors due to water seeping into their dining rooms.

Employees of a local that sells lunches said they placed sandbags at the door to prevent water from entering.

They claimed they lost between $1,000 and $2,500 by not serving the public today.

In the Santa Rosa parish, two boats were affected, which has caused considerable damage.

Several days ago, the Oceanographic Institute of the Navy (Inocar) had anticipated that the arrival of a new wave train to Ecuadorian territory was expected on January 15, both on the insular and continental parts.

Strong waves caused havoc in sectors near the boardwalks of Salinas and Santa Elena

The entity specified that the coast would be affected by a considerable wave of energy coming from the northwest of the Pacific Ocean, and that they will be felt with greater intensity on Monday the 16th in the insular zone, while on the mainland it will be on Tuesday the 17th. (YO)
