An operation deployed in six provinces of Ecuador and strategic points in Colombia have made it possible to dismantle a gang dedicated to producing and trafficking weapons and explosives.
President Guillermo Lasso announced this Wednesday the 18th that an operation has been carried out that has allowed the capture of 19 people.
Among those apprehended are several women. Six were apprehended in Colombian territory.

The actions to dismantle this gang took place this morning.
Lasso said that the arrests occurred in the “Armed Frontier Operation”, which deployed uniformed personnel in six provinces of the country.
According to the Government, 32 simultaneous raids have been carried out to dismantle the organization dedicated to the production and trafficking of illegal weapons.

The president indicated that the weapons were used to fuel violence in the streets, support terrorism, and involve Ecuador in international arms trafficking.

This capture of an international gang occurs hours after a virtual meeting between the Minister of National Defense of Ecuador, Luis Lara Jaramillo, and the Minister of Defense of Colombia, Iván Velásquez, to work on strategies to strengthen the security of the northern border. .
