The Bernal family will not oppose tomorrow the request for the release of cadet Joselyn S.

Tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., in Quito, the hearing will be held to review the measures that weigh on cadet Joselyn S., who is detained for the case of the death of the lawyer Maria Belen Bernal.

On September 11, Bernal went to the Police School to look for her husband, German Cacereswho worked as an instructor. She was found dead ten days later on the Casitagua hill, which is behind the police school.

Cadet Joselyn S. was one of the people who was in the building where Cáceres and Bernal had an argument. She was apprehended after the hypothesis was woven that she had a relationship with Bernal.

However, the exploitation of Bernal’s cell phone revealed data that would free the cadet from having directly participated in the criminal act. In that exploitation, an audio was extracted from the moments before her death.

After completing the tax investigation, the Bernal family has detailed that she went to look for Cáceres at the Police School once she presumed that he was drunk. Already at the site, they would have had a discussion after Bernal discovered that Cáceres had a hickey on his shoulder.

She would have slapped and pushed him. He reacted by pushing her onto her bed and then held her in a hold, according to the lawyer for the victim’s family.

Jesús López, a lawyer for the Bernal family, indicated that while Bernal is heard as conciliatory and peaceful, Cáceres is seen as violent.

The lawyer indicated that with this new evidence there is direct proof that Cáceres took his life and that only the two of them were on the scene.

That leaves Cadet Joselyn S., who would not have directly participated in the crime, off the scene.

López said this morning on the radio events that with this evidence the cadet’s direct participation in this event would be ruled out.

Therefore, he anticipated that they will not oppose the review of the precautionary measure in favor of the cadet. “Tomorrow, when the hearing to review the precautionary measure will be held, well, indeed, we will support the thesis of the State Prosecutor’s Office. And, well, the right thing to do is for the young cadet to be released,” López said.

If the revision of measures is accepted, Joselyn would recover her freedom. With this, Cáceres and Lieutenant Alfonso C., who has alternative measures, would be involved in this case.

Alfonso C. is involved due to an apparent omission, since he was in the building the day the events occurred. His defense has indicated that he notified his superiors of the news.
