The Government, through the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, signed an intergovernmental financial support contract with the German Development Bank (KfW) for 15 million euros, which will be administered by the Sustainable Environmental Investment Fund (FIAS).
These non-reimbursable funds will be used for the execution of the “Protection of biodiversity in the Galapagos Islands” program, with the aim of working in coordination with allied organizations for the detection, monitoring, control, management and eradication of invasive species. .
The contract will have a duration of 5 years with an option to extend it and the funds will finance strategies for the prevention, control and eradication of invasive species such as the caulerpa algae, the avian vampire fly, plants such as blackberries and the Floreana ecological restoration project.

The Ministry of the Environment will also strategically guide this program through the Galapagos Invasive Species Control Fund (FEIG) and will participate in the identification, preparation, implementation and supervision of the projects through the Galapagos National Park (PNG) and the Agency Regulation and Control of Biosafety and Quarantine for Galapagos (ABG).
