Up to 300 students a day in Quito are detected drinking in clandestine parties, parks and sidewalks; In the last operation, a minor was found with a baby

60% of the operations carried out by members of the National Police in the Eloy Alfaro district, in the south of Quito, are focused on removing the students who are loitering in parks and sidewalks near their educational institutions. This is so recurrent that they have calculated that approximately 250 to 300 students are withdrawn every day.

Another problem that the police have identified is the proliferation of clandestine parties.

Diego Barriga, commander of the Eloy Alfaro district, pointed out that they have identified that students receive invitations to parties for the value of $0.50 to $2.00, approximately.

The Eloy Alfaro area is within the perimeter between Rodrigo de Chávez avenue to Morán Valverde avenue, and from Simón Bolívar avenue to the Lloa sector. It includes 10 urban circuits and one rural. All this in the south of the capital.

Upon arriving at these houses where the parties were taking place, they found adulterated liquor, plastic bottles for distribution, beers, and a number of minors who covered their faces when being recorded, since most wore the uniform of educational institutions.

The last party in which they carried out an operation had a group of 200 people, inside a house that did not comply with the healthy guarantees. Of these, approximately 90 were minors, who were transferred to the Eloy Alfaro district to later be handed over to their parents or representatives.

Barriga asserted that young people show a hostile attitude when one of these parties is prevented. She also emphasized, with surprise, that at one of the parties they found a minor under 14 years of age, who had her one-year-old baby in her arms.

Faced with this problem, he announced that this week they will hold a meeting with the rectors of educational institutions. With this, they plan to find alternatives that curb the exposure of students to parties and the consumption of alcohol or other prohibited substances.

“It is not fair that the students, instead of being in classes, where they have to be, are lounging, we have approximately 250 to 300 students a day who are outside educational establishments (…) this week three minors have taken off life and it is for being in this alcohol consumption “, added the police authority.

Carrying of white weapons

Another of the constant operations carried out in the Eloy Alfaro district is the search of citizens to confiscate bladed weapons. They have identified that in the red dots or most dangerous areas, people hide knives and other sharp objects among their clothes that are used to assault the inhabitants.

In three weeks they have confiscated 125 bladed weapons. This number is alarming, according to the security authorities. In Quito there is an ordinance that penalizes those who carry bladed weapons, however, according to the Police commander, the Metropolitan Control Agency (AMC) does not have the resources to penalize everyone.

Given this, they have also taken a measure. When they find and seize a gun, they keep a record of the gun and the person it was found from. They also generate photographic support, to follow up on these people. During 2022, they seized a total of 3,350 bladed weapons. (YO)
