Russian transport investigators opened a criminal case to establish the circumstances of the death of four Russian citizens in a plane crash in Nepal. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

“In order to clarify all the circumstances of the death of citizens of the Russian Federation, the investigating authorities initiated a criminal case on violation of traffic safety rules and the operation of air transport, which negligently resulted in the death of two or more persons,” the department said.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation recalled that as a result of the disaster, four crew members and 68 passengers died, including citizens of the Russian Federation – two women and two men.

“The investigation organized a complex of initial investigative actions and operational-search measures aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident. The Investigation Department is in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation,” the department said.

Recall, the plane ATR 72 of Yeti Airlines, en route to Pokhara from Kathmandu, crashed on Sunday. On board were four crew members and 68 passengers, including three children and 15 foreigners, including four Russians.

January 16 has been declared a day of mourning in Nepal.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Nepalese President Bidhya Devi Bhandari in connection with the plane crash. He asked to convey “words of sincere sympathy and support to the families and friends of those killed in this terrible plane crash.”
