Options to undertake, domestic violence, lack of employment and environmental and traffic problems, among the issues discussed in Esmeraldas by 11 candidates for Mayor

Entrepreneurial alternatives for women and young people were, among others, the proposals of the candidates for the Esmeraldas Mayor’s Office during the debate organized by the National Electoral Council (CNE) held this Sunday, January 15.

During the weekend the event had as actors the candidates for the dignity of mayor of 21 cantons of 14 provinces of the country.

In the case of Esmeraldas, a canton located in the province of the same name, the eleven applicants appeared: Rocío Ávila, from the Social Christian Party (PSC); Miguel Ruiz, from the Democratic Center; Lucía Sosa, from Popular Unity; Kiky Coronado, from the Patriotic Society Party (PSP); Félix Avellán, from the People, Equality and Democracy (PID) movement.

Also, Vicko Villacís, from the Citizen Revolution; Ernesto Estupiñán, from the Democratic Left (ID); Jorverlis Corozo, from the Socialist Party (PS); Rubén Klinger, from Pachakutik (PK); Frickson Erazo of the Party Creating Opportunities (CREO); and Allison Mosquera, from Avanza.

Rocío Ávila, candidate for the PSC, expressed that psychological and family violence and lack of employment must be resolved in coordination with other institutions in the canton.

The candidate for re-election Lucía Sosa indicated that some 2,000 entrepreneurs benefit from the municipal training project, a smart city with surveillance, the rescue of 60 people in deplorable conditions and the shelter of some thirty women in the protection house.

Some of the issues to be resolved in Esmeraldas are sanitary and storm sewerage, services and traffic control, completion of works in progress such as the joint drinking water system, municipal building, dredging of the Esmeraldas River, sanitary landfill, surveillance and security system. .

The participants Miguel Ruiz, from Centro Democrático, and former mayor Ernesto Estupiñán, from ID, proposed the Esmeraldas Verde y en Paz plan, with a strategic alliance.

On the environmental and pollution issue, Lucía Sosa, Félix Avellán and Jorverlis Corozo insisted on the demand for compensation, in accordance with constitutional article 274, to EP Petroecuador for the contamination of the Esmeraldas refinery.

They also requested circular recovery through recycling, discharges from the Manduriacu and Termoesmeraldas electric thermogenerators.

Meanwhile, Rubén Klínger, from Pachakutik, proposed suspending the photoradars, reengineering the traffic agents and making them part of the Municipality, regulating cooperative and executive taxis and trikes.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) took precautions to avoid incidents between activists and supporters of the eleven candidates during the electoral debate on a local television station on the night of this Sunday the 15th.

The security device was in force from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in six blocks that included the streets Eugenio Espejo, José Joaquín de Olmedo, Diez de Agosto and Eloy Alfaro.
