Rains in Quito and the valleys caused flooding in various sectors

The thunder and rain were once again the protagonists on the afternoon of this Saturday, January 14. In Quito, the thermal sensation was low, the sky was cloudy and the accumulation of water caused various inconveniences to the inhabitants.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi), this weekend there will be medium and high level rains in different sectors of Pichincha, especially in the center and west of the province.

The entity issued a series of alerts about the presence of rains with storms in the Quito area and its valleys.

The Quito Fire Department (CBQ) reported that this afternoon they dealt with two floods in homes in the north of the city, in the La Delicia sector.

The first was reported on Calle De los Olivos, and the second on Eloy Alfaro and Buganvillas. In addition, it was indicated that there were no people injured or deceased in the cases attended.

It was also reported that in the parishes of El Quinche and Guayllabamba they had to attend to emergencies due to the accumulation of liquid on the roads.

The main streets of Guayllabamba were filled with water and mud, commercial premises had to request help from the firefighters who moved cabinets and furniture affected by the water.

The inhabitants also joined the work to clean the road and sidewalks.

Floods and landslides, among the emergencies generated by the intense rain in Quito

The authorities issued recommendations for people in order to avoid further incidents. For example, they asked that drivers travel at low speed, that gutters and drains be kept clean so that water can circulate, and that they wear warm clothing.

This week there was a landslide that entered a house, in Conocoto, in the southeast of Quito. In addition, flooding was reported in homes in the south of the city. (YO)
