How entry to Qatar for the World Cup works

Entry to Qatar is, from November 1 and temporarily, only possible with the so-called Hayya card.

Only ticket holders for World Cup Soccer matches can register for this “Fan ID”, as the organizers call it.

They can then nominate up to three people who, even without a ticket to a match, can receive a Hayya card for a fee of around 140 euros or dollars and enter the country with it.

The German Foreign Ministry also clarifies in its travel advice for Qatar that Hayya card holders no longer need to pre-register through the Qatari government’s Ehteraz portal, normally required for tourists.

A notice to this effect can also be found on the website of the Qatari tourism agency Visit Qatar.

What is still necessary for travelers over the age of 18 is that they must download the Ehteraz coronavirus tracking app. In addition, when entering the country you must take out medical insurance that costs about 50 Qatari riyals, equivalent to about 14 euros or dollars.

It is important to know that whoever receives the approved Hayya card will also receive an entry permit to the country by email. This permit must be presented, printed or digitally, at the airport upon arrival.

According to the latest information from the Qatari Ministry of Health, as of November 1, a negative coronavirus test is no longer required for those entering Qatar.

The World Cup in Qatar is held from November 20 to December 18. Until December 23, entry into the country is only possible with the Hayya card.
