More than 300,000 registered in the 2023 admission process for public universities; registration ends this thursday

366,000 people with a bachelor’s degree and upcoming graduates of the Costa and Galapagos regime had registered – until 08:00 this Thursday – in the so-called National Registry within the first stage of the admission process for public universities and polytechnic schools for the year 2023 .

High school graduates must register until this Thursday, January 12 at https://www.registrounicoedusup.gob.ec/, at 11:30 p.m.

The Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt) enabled this platform for this process, although since this year the mechanism for admission to higher education institutions must be carried out by them, but there is state accompaniment.

The projection of the Senescyt was to reach about 300,000 records. It was enabled on December 29, 2022.

In the National Registry, high school graduates must enter their personal data through the creation of an account, self-identification, disability, place of residence, technological information, among others.

Once the stage of the National Registry ends, the admission phases will come, which include registration, evaluation, among other aspects, and the third stage is the acceptance of the quota, as explained on Thursday by Andrea Ibáñez, undersecretary of the Senescyt.

He added that the second phase will be between January and March.

In April they would have the application scores, allocation of quotas and between April and May, the acceptance of quotas.

It is not yet possible to determine how many places there will be for the 2023 period, as this depends on each university, he explained.

“We firmly believe that, in the future, the trend will be to continue increasing these places, which are of course in charge of the country’s universities and polytechnic schools,” he said.

He recalled that in the last academic period there were 130,000 places.

Regarding whether they have been given a larger budget for the admission process, he replied that there is an increase of $200 million for this year, and that the universities, in their autonomy, will have the power to allocate those funds as they see fit.

The budget, he indicated, went from $1.100 to $1.300 million in 2023.

Ibáñez referred to this issue at a press conference of the Council for Higher Education (CES) on the activities carried out by that entity in 2022.

Its president Pablo Beltrán indicated that they updated the regulations so that higher education institutions have greater autonomy in the creation of headquarters, careers, setting fees.

Beltrán said that last year some 1,000 new careers and programs were approved, most of which correspond to public offerings. (YO)
