On Thursday, November 4, two people were arrested while trying to collect the human development bonus with adulterated IDs. As reported by the National Police, the older adults used names and ages of people already listed as deceased.
Police officers in the Itchimbía area were alerted to the presence of people with alleged alteration of identity documents in a financial institution located on the streets 10 de Agosto and Riofrío, in the center of Quito.
The guard reportedly called the police after the Cashier of the place noticed the unusual characteristic in the cédulas of the people who came to that place trying to collect the voucher.
Upon arrival, two male persons were arrested: a 67-year-old and a 68-year-old. The police checked the system and found that the birth dates were adulterated, as well as the other characteristics of the identity card, for which they proceeded to apprehend the citizens.
The detainees were placed under the orders of the competent authority to continue with the respective procedure, already with their real names.
However, when reviewing the security cameras of the establishment, they confirmed that it was four people who came to the place for that purpose. The other two citizens would have left the place when they noticed the presence of the gendarmes. But among the evidences are the four doctored documents.
At the moment they are in the investigation to find the whereabouts of the other two citizens. As reported by the National Police, it would be a band dedicated to identity theft and fraudulent use of false documents in various provinces of the country. (I)
