The largest discovery of drugs without health registration in 2021 was carried out in Quito and Ibarra, according to Arcsa
In Quito and Ibarra, more than a million units of counterfeit drugs were detected at dawn on November 5. In an operation coordinated by the State Attorney General’s Office, in which the National Police and a technical team from the National Agency for Health Regulation, Control and Surveillance (Arcsa) participated, the irregular lots were seized and four people were arrested.
Numerous commercial name drugs without health registration were identified that were going to be sold to these sectors and whose total value would amount to $ 400,000, as reported. The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that ten months ago it was investigating the sale of counterfeit drugs.
With the assistance of the Arcsa Móvil application, Agency technicians verified the irregularity of these drugs in the five properties raided, so that the elements of the Prosecutor’s Office and Police proceed to their seizure and thus prevent their circulation.
“This operation has been successful thanks to inter-institutional interoperability, the law will proceed against the people involved, ”said Ana Karina Ramírez, Arcsa’s executive director from her Twitter account.
So far this year, this would be the largest illegal drug discovery in the country and a major blow to drug counterfeiting gangs, Arcsa noted in a press release.
The agency advises the community to acquire their medicines in authorized pharmaceutical chains, and verify that they have the respective health certification through the app Arcsa Mobile. (I)
