Murder of savings cooperative official would be related to attempted kidnapping, according to Police

The murder of Carlos Yumailla, head of the agency of a savings cooperative, would be related to an attempted kidnapping, according to Colonel Jorge Hadatty, head of the Durán district, on the afternoon of this Friday the 6th.

According to police investigations, the seven individuals who intended to commit the kidnapping were traveling in a vehicle and on a motorcycle. Yumailla was moving in his vehicle along Nicolás Lapentti Avenue, Durán’s main road artery.

In the midst of the plagiarism attempt, the antisocials shot at the car in which Yumailla was riding. As a result of that, the citizen was hit by projectiles and died minutes later in a health home in the north of Guayaquil.

“From the first evidence collected, it is possible to presume that these citizens intended to kidnap the citizen, in order to request amounts of money for their release; but, at the moment of carrying out this action, they shoot and the citizen dies,” said the police chief, regretting the outcome of this episode, which was initially considered to be an attempted robbery.

Haddaty commented that, around 12:30, teams that were patrolling on Nicolás Lapentti Avenue noticed the shots at the car of the savings agency employee, and immediately a pursuit was carried out through several roads in the canton.

Police officers arrived at a gas station in the Los Helechos sector, who managed to apprehend seven citizens.

In the police pursuit there was a crossroads of bullets. As a result, an antisocial was also injured.

Police confirmed that two of the seven antisocials have criminal records for murder and kidnapping, respectively. Both would belong to an organized crime group, since they have tattoos that identify them with that gang.

At the time of the capture, two Glock-type firearms, ballistic evidence of a 9-millimeter weapon, two feeders for 30 ammunition and five mobile phones were found in the possession of the antisocials.

In this event, another person who was passing through the avenue at the time of the attack was also injured, and now remains stable. The citizen was in a truck that was about 150 meters from Yumailla’s vehicle.

In these six days of the year, Zone 8, also made up of Guayaquil and Samborondón, already has at least 24 violent deaths. (YO)
