The Danish company Moeller-Maersk A/S has notified Russian clients of the start of winding down business activity in the Russian Federation.

The phase-out has already begun, the company said in a statement. “Unfortunately, at the moment we do not have clarity on the prospects for the resumption of Maersk activities in Russia,” the company notes.

Maersk also noted that from the very beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, ensuring the safety and well-being of employees was a priority. “As we phase out Maersk’s operations in Russia over the next six months, we will do everything in our power to support our Russian employees and family members,” Maersk said.

The company plans to take out all containers previously imported into the Russian Federation by the end of April. At the moment, the company has about 50 thousand of its containers in the Russian Federation, mostly empty.

Earlier it was reported that the company Maersk, which specializes in sea freight transportation and maintenance of port terminals, decided to stop accepting new orders for sea and land transport to and from Russia.

The corresponding decision was made after the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine and the ensuing EU sanctions.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”

In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
