Over 3.5 million refugees have left Ukraine since February 24. 500 thousand of them may experience mental disorders due to the conflict. Paloma Kuci, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Poland, told reporters about this, as RIA Novosti reports.
According to WHO, 6.5 million people were forced to leave their homes inside Ukraine. Poland has already received more than 2 million people. Refugees spend several days without normal food and water, waiting to cross the border, children are tired and worried, the elderly and chronically ill are left without medicine for a long time, which leads to decompensation of diabetes, high blood pressure and other health problems, pregnant women are deprived prenatal care.
WHO estimates that half a million refugees may have mental health problems due to the conflict and about 30,000 people with severe mental health problems, Kuchi said.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. The goals were called “denazification and demilitarization”.
