Three arrested for the murder of a man in Picoazá, Portoviejo parish

Hitman-style attack was registered in a bar in this urban sector of the capital of Manabí.

A man was murdered on Thursday night, inside a bar located in the center of the Picoazá parish, belonging to the Portoviejo canton. While he was drinking with six other people, the man was attacked.

The bar is located on 8th and Tomás Larrea streets of said parish located about 12 kilometers west of Portoviejo.

There was José Mercado Zambrano, known as Chichina, who was shot by his perpetrators on at least seven occasions.

After the attack, the antisocials allegedly fled in a white car, which they abandoned at the exit of Picoazá, and later got into a taxi from a cooperative in Portoviejo, where they continued to flee.

Two men were murdered near the Manta market on the morning of this Friday the 13th.

After learning that they were moving in a taxi, police agents stopped the march of that car at the height of the Los Cerezos citadel, a neighboring town of Picoazá, located on the outskirts of Portoviejo. There they arrested three people, and inside the car, according to the police, a weapon was found, while in the first abandoned car a feeder was found.

Freddy Ávalos, surrogate chief of the Portoviejo police district, pointed out that one of the detainees was a taxi driver, who, it was said, would analyze the degree of participation in the attack that killed a person.

“He has a criminal record, records five previous arrests and it can be presumed that it was some sort of reckoning,” Ávalos said in relation to the victim.

The place where the crime occurred did not have security cameras and after collecting evidence, the bar was closed, while Mercado’s relatives arrived at the scene indicating that they did not know the causes of the incident.

The people who had sex with Mercado were taken to the police to render their statement regarding this violent death, number 166 until now in 2021 in Manabí. (I)
