A judge ordered preventive detention for Police Major Walter C., Esmeraldas Criminalistics Chief, for his alleged responsibility in the rape of a 19-year-old girl in Ambato.

The Prosecutor’s Office reported through its Twitter account that the arrest of the uniformed man took place on the afternoon of this Wednesday, January 4.

The entity explained that a search and subsequent capture was carried out, duly authorized by the judge of the Violence Against Women Unit.

Lieutenant Colonel Geovanna Pérez, operational chief of the National Unit for Crimes Against Sexual Integrity, reported that investigative actions were carried out in this case in order to determine those responsible.

The detained police major was admitted to the Ambato Social Rehabilitation Center.

The alleged sexual offense was perpetrated on October 31 at the premises owned by the wife of the police major, in the Miñarica sector, in Ambato.

For this reason, the Prosecutor’s Office also prosecutes the detainee’s wife for her alleged participation.

Because he was out of the country, alternative measures were ordered, such as periodic presentation before a consulate in the United States.

According to relatives, the young woman along with four other people attended a course in this place and, after the training as part of a celebration for Halloween, they would have ingested a drink that had some substance. The training was given on October 31, 2022.

“There would have been that the police officer in complicity with the wife has abused my daughter and the other companion. So I ask for justice for this case, so that it does not go unpunished,” said the young woman’s father, during a sit-in that took place at the Community Surveillance Unit (UVC) on Wednesday the 4th.

At that site, relatives, friends and members of the Ana de Peralta collective held a sit-in with the aim of asking the authorities to do justice for the alleged sexual crime against two women aged 19 and 17.

Gina Vásquez, secretary of the Ana de Peralta collective, commented that since they found out about the alleged rape, they have been accompanying and supporting the victims so that the act does not go unpunished.

“It is not fair that the Police, instead of protecting us, rape girls, women; since it is not fair that he continues working, he does not have to allow it. Enough of impunity,” she said. (YO)
