The US administration has decided to sell Finland AIM-9X Block II tactical air-to-air missiles and AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon guided bombs, as well as related equipment for a total of $323.3 million, TASS reports with reference to the Pentagon’s Department of Defense Cooperation and Security, which is responsible for the supply of military equipment and weapons abroad under intergovernmental agreements.

Overall, Finland requested the sale of 40 AIM-9X Block II missiles and 48 AGM-154 JSOW aerial bombs.

“The proposed sale will improve Finland’s combat capabilities in terms of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons, and will also have a positive impact on US relations with the Nordic countries. Finland intends to use these weapons and related services for use by its fighters, ”the document says.

From Washington’s point of view, the sale of these weapons “will not lead to a change in the basic military balance in the region.”

In accordance with US national law, permission to implement the current agreements is issued by the State Department. After it was received, the US administration notified Congress of the decision. The US legislature now has 30 days to study this military contract and possibly block it.
