2023 begins with an apparent announcement of war between the four gangs that dispute the sale of drugs in the northwest of Guayaquil.
After the murder of a teenager, which occurred in the early hours of this Wednesday, January 3, on Casuarina Avenue, the Police found a note next to the victim’s body.

On the sheet of paper, one of the organizations claimed that the war was starting in the area.
The corpse would correspond to a minor under the age of 15 involved in the dispute, however, it has not yet been identified by the Police, who are reviewing his fingerprints.
The victim was found at 04:15 on Casuarina Avenue, in front of a bus station. She was handcuffed and evidenced several gunshot wounds.
According to witnesses, at that time two motorcycles arrived in the area and three hooded men lowered the minor who was with his hands tied behind his back.
“They shot him with a rifle and went towards Mount Sinai,” the neighbors told investigators.
At the scene, the Criminalistics agents raised at least 15 5.56 caliber ballistic evidence and the note that the murderers would have left.
The new year has started with several homicides. Only during the holiday, between Friday, December 30 and Monday, January 2, there were about twenty murders.
At least six minors were hit by bullets in the early morning of January 1 in different parts of Guayaquil, as the hitmen took advantage of family gatherings to kill their enemies.

In Guayaquil, three minors have been shot dead during the first four days of 2023; two would be collateral victims.
Last year, 264 minors were murdered nationwide: 80 were under 2 years old, 33 were children between 2 and 12 years old, and 151 were adolescents. (YO)
