The Moscow City Court has issued a verdict in a high-profile case involving Rauf Arashukov, a former member of the Federation Council from Karachay-Cherkessia, and his father, Raul Arashukov, who served as adviser to the general director of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz. The operative part of the verdict will be announced later.
Earlier, the prosecution asked for a life sentence for the Arashukovs in the case of creating a criminal community, murders and embezzlement.
“The court sees no obstacles to appointing Rauf and Raul Arashukov to life terms. How individuals pose a particular danger to society,” said Judge Elena Guchenkova. They will serve their sentence in a special regime colony.
According to investigators, Rauf Arashukov, at the request of his father, organized the murders of Aslan Zhukov, deputy chairman of the Adyghe-Khase public youth movement of the KChR, and Fral Shebzukhov, adviser to the head of the republic, because they could interfere with the plans of Raul Arashukov, the functioning of the activities of the criminal community organized by him and theft of fuel from six branches of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz by 4.4 billion rubles.
The case is also being conducted by Kazbek Bulatov, the first deputy head of the department of the Investigative Committee for the KChR, Timur Betuganov, the former head of the republican center for countering extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Andrey Filippov, the former investigator of the head office of the Investigative Committee for the KChR, and Guzer Khashukaev, the ex-director of the branch of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz Stavropol.
