More than half of Russians regret the collapse of the USSR

More than half of Russians (58%) feel regret over the collapse of the Soviet Union that happened more than 30 years ago. According to Interfax, this is evidenced by the data of the VTsIOM poll.

According to a poll by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM), published on December 22, 2021, over 60% of Russians expressed regret over the collapse of the USSR. At the same time, fellow citizens aged 46-60 (82%) regretted the collapse of the USSR most of all, among Russians over 60 this proportion was 76%.

At the same time, at that time, among young people aged 18-30, more than a quarter of respondents (28%) regretted the collapse of the Soviet state.

The results of the VTsIOM study in 2022 show that fellow citizens over the age of 60 (81%) most of all regret the collapse of a single state, among young people aged 18-24 almost one in five (19%) experiences such feelings.

In turn, 20% of fellow citizens do not feel any regret about this, among respondents under the age of 24, every third (33%) takes this position.

According to VTsIOM, 13% of respondents show indifference on this issue, among young people aged 18-24 there were three times more indifference (40%).

When asked by sociologists about whether the respondents want to restore the USSR now, almost every second (48%) answered positively, among fellow citizens over 60 this proportion was 58%. According to the survey, more than a third of fellow citizens (37%) would not want the restoration of a unified state; among young people aged 18-24, more than half of them (54%) turned out to be.

According to the study, 15% of respondents do not know what to say about this.

The All-Russian initiative survey, timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the creation of the USSR, was conducted on December 16, 2022 among 1600 respondents aged 18 and over.
