The last week the weather in Quito has been characterized by clear skies and high levels of solar radiation, especially in the morning hours.
This Friday a maximum temperature of between 23 and 25 degrees was recorded, the sky had little cloudiness, but the ultraviolet radiation (UV) index was extremely high and gusts of moderate wind according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi).
More than 50,000 vehicles will leave Guayaquil for the resorts of Guayas and Santa Elena on the Christmas holiday
The intense solar radiation in Quito and the inter-Andean region is due to several atmospheric factors that are coupled so that masses of dry air enter Ecuador, which causes less humidity in the environment and less cloud cover, explained Cristina Valdiviezo, analyst in the Area of Forecasts and Alerts of Inamhi.
By not having much presence of clouds in the sky, the sun’s rays carry people more directly. The Inamhi expert points out that despite the fact that the rainy season governs, so far in December there has been less rain.
Facing the holiday for the Christmas festivities, Valdiviezo explained how the weather will behave in Quito during the holidays:
– Saturday, December 24: Solar radiation will continue, which could become extremely high in the morning and afternoon hours. UV radiation rates could be between high and very high. However, it is expected that there will be an increase in cloudiness, so at night the sky could appear more cloudy. In mountainous areas in the south of Quito, isolated rains are likely to be recorded at night.
– Sunday 25 and Monday 26 December: Weather conditions will change. There will be more moisture ingress, so the days will be more cloudy and rain is forecast, including thunderstorms.
Quito land terminals foresee the departure of 100,000 people for the Christmas holiday
Rainfall is expected to occur in the morning and afternoon hours. For these days the temperature will oscillate between 19 and 22 degrees Celsius, while the radiation index would be between moderate and high.
The specialist recommends that citizens protect themselves from the sun’s rays, using clothing that covers most of their body, hats, glasses, an umbrella, and sunscreen. (YO)
