The chief freelance specialist in first aid of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Leonid Dezhurny, said that in case of burns from sparklers, salutes or firecrackers, cool the burned part of the body with cold water for 20 minutes, close the damaged area with a loose bandage and give the victim a warm drink, while opening the burn blisters or apply ointments on them. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“A lot of people with burns of varying severity turn to traumatologists during the holidays. Burns can occur under direct exposure to the skin of a flame, steam, hot objects (such burns are called thermal). The provision of first aid for various types of burns is almost the same, ”Dzhurny told reporters.
He explained that in case of a burn, the burned part of the body should be cooled under a stream of cold water for 20 minutes, and in the absence of water, ice can be applied over a bandage or cloth. Immediate cooling will relieve pain, reduce swelling, reduce the area and depth of burns, the specialist said.
In addition, it is recommended to close the burn surface with a loose bandage and give the victim a warm drink. It is impossible to open burn blisters, remove parts of burnt clothing from the affected surface, and also apply ointments, creams, oils to the affected areas, stressed the duty officer.
