The authorities of Kazakhstan maintain friendly relations with both Russia and Ukraine, regularly calling on the parties to resolve the conflict through diplomacy. According to TASS, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Mukhtar Tleuberdi said this in an interview with the Japanese NHK TV channel.
“Russia and Ukraine are historically friendly states for Kazakhstan. President Tokayev is in regular contact with the leaders of both countries, urging them to sit down at the negotiating table in order to find a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the current conflict,” the Foreign Minister said.
He recalled that “the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan have close economic relations, in connection with which anti-Russian sanctions have a negative impact on the Kazakh economy.”
According to him, the Kazakh authorities also offer to transfer their business to the country to foreign companies that were forced to close their representative offices in the Russian Federation under the influence of sanctions.
The Minister noted that Kazakhstan is pursuing a multilateral and balanced diplomacy, while building relations with Russia, China, neighboring states of Central Asia, as well as with the European Union, Great Britain, the United States and Japan. “We pay great attention to the development of the transport and logistics potential of Kazakhstan and expect to attract investors to become a center connecting Europe and Asia,” he said.
