Two earthquakes measuring 5.3 and 4.6 were recorded off the coast of the province of Esmeraldas and Nariño (Colombia). The movements woke up the inhabitants at dawn on Saturday the 17th.
The first telluric movement was of magnitude 5.3 at a depth of 9.81 km, 71.74 km from Esmeraldas. Initially, the Geophysical Institute (IG) placed it at 5.6. It happened at 04:46.
Minutes later, at 04:49, there was another movement of magnitude 4.6. It had a depth of 7.55 km, 77.41 km from Esmeraldas, according to the IG. Preliminarily it was said to be 4.9.
The inhabitants of Esmeraldas reported that they felt the movement strongly, which woke them up suddenly.
