President Lasso delivered 580 vehicles to members of the Zone 8 Police

The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, delivered 580 vehicles to the National Police in Zone 8 this Wednesday the 14th, in an event held at the headquarters of the Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR).

The units, including motorcycles, trucks, cars and buses, will be used for the preventive and investigative axes that operate in the institution.

The delivery of this equipment is part of the actions that are carried out by the Government to provide instruments to the Police and as part of the vehicle fleet renewal plan that will be carried out over the next three years.

The maintenance of the vehicles is considered until May 2025, indicated the general commander of the National Police, Fausto Salinas.

What is the constitutional reform proposed by President Guillermo Lasso for the Armed Forces?

Salinas explained that in Zone 8 the Analysis and Intelligence Center has been implemented to generate the information that will allow the identification of criminal organizations, their members and activities.

These centers are also implemented in Quito, Guayaquil, Esmeraldas, Manabí, Los Ríos and a command and control room in Quito.

The Minister of the Interior, Juan Zapata, announced that $17 million has been allocated for 74 Community Police units (UPC) and a UVC that are in critical areas, most of which are in Guayaquil with 23.

This would be the budget approved for the state of emergency declared for the National Police and the Ministry of the Interior and that will allow armoring police units and acquiring ammunition.

“These UPCs that were generated with different models will not give any guarantee. Enough of having sandbags, that doesn’t make sense. That is why the investment that will be made will guarantee not only the exteriors, but also place shields on windows and doors so that organized crime runs into problems when they want to attack,” Zapata explained.

Security for directors of prison centers

Lasso announced that the necessary resources will be invested in the coming weeks to acquire 46 armored double-cab vans, so that the directors of each of the penitentiary centers and the general director of the National Comprehensive Care Service for Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescents Offenders (SNAI) are protected.

As indicated by the president, this measure is taken to prevent an attack like the one perpetrated against Santiago Loza, director of the El Inca prison, located in the north of Quito, from happening again.

Lasso added that the generals of the National Police and the Armed Forces will also circulate in new and armored vehicles so as not to risk their lives when they travel to and from their workplaces. “We are already seeing how the hit men act, with total disrespect,” he said. (YO)
