Manta remembers today its 99 years of cantonization, and it does so with a future projection. It has a development plan ready until 2035, where it intends to promote 325 works, of which 18 are a priority according to that projection axis that seeks to turn this Manabi port into a new development pole.
That is the vision that was managed from the Municipality of Manta as of 2019, when Agustín Intriago entered the mayor’s office, who together with a group of technicians established the need to incorporate a development plan for this port of 300,000 inhabitants, and that has an annual population growth of 3,000 people.
Teddy Andrade, coordinator of strategic management and projects of this Municipality, indicated that this plan not only seeks that this city is sustainable, that it generates job opportunities and that it becomes a new pole of national development, which integrates the province and that it collaborates with the economic growth of the country.
Recovering contaminated spaces, and turning them into tourist powers, are part of the 18 projects of greatest interest within the 325 that have been proposed to be structured in the short, medium and long term until 2035.
In addition, for example, solving housing problems, a new hospital, a new area for a cemetery, a marketing system, the recovery of the beds of the Manta, Burro and Bravo rivers, construction of an underwater outlet, a series of green spaces, infrastructure in rural areas and even new tourist destinations to reconvert activities mainly with artisanal fishermen.
One of the problems that is sought to end is to reduce the impact of environmental effects that are evident in this city, an unsatisfied need for which 300 million dollars are required, which at present are not counted in the municipal coffers. The development plan will begin to be released next month in Manta.

Andrade indicated that part of the priority tasks will be to stop the environmental contamination that arises from oxidation lagoons that are in the south of the city, building an underwater outlet. “With that we recover these public spaces that are destined for tourism, and thus return to the Tarqui parish, affected by the earthquake, its great economic interest,” said Andrade, who added that Manta is already promoting a process of change in support with the Green Pact project.
The economic sustainability of Manta will be promoted in diversifying its economy, increasing a new productive apparatus that accompanies current productive activities, and among them is allocating a space for a Ciudad Alimentaria project, an industrial park type Economic Zone of Economic Development, a logistics business park. It also wants to promote a technological platform where new students prepare to work in activities related to technology.
The definition of where these spaces are projected to be installed is the rural area of Manta, where the production of food stands out, which is even promoted for export through its port and airport.
99 years after ceasing to be a parish of the Montecristi canton, in Manta there are still deficiencies and responses from the National Government are expected, such as on the issue of the airport delegation and also that the rehabilitation of this air terminal is completed. It is also expected that works such as the Manta-Colisa will be completed, for which members of the Reconstruction Committee allocated more than 100 million dollars in a work that is currently abandoned.
In Manta, it is requested that the improvement works of the Eloy Alfaro airport be resumed
Martha Paz, president of the Manta Civic Board, mentions that it is necessary for the Government to be more interested in the city, to reactivate tourism, and even to resume the momentum of projects such as the Manta-Quevedo Intermodal road, which even intended to resume a desire to get to Manaus in Brazil.
“The Manta airport delegation cannot fall, or allow it to fall. So far we know that they are going to give the Municipality of Manta (delegation management), but as long as it is not signed, it is as if it were not said, “said Paz.
This Thursday, November 4, the solemn session will take place from 6:00 p.m. outside the Manta cruise terminal. (I)
