Unusual scenes were witnessed by the residents of the Los Ceibos neighborhood, in the center of Ibarra, when a foreigner in an alcoholic state took a woman hostage and subdued her with a knife.

Witnesses to the event pointed out that the woman was nervous and was crying in the middle of the attacker’s arms, who wrapped her tightly. This event, which occurred on Espejo and Río Blanco streets, caused panic among passers-by, who tried to find a way to free her and put her to safety.

Jairo, one of the witnesses to the event, said that they lived through moments of urgency, for which they tried to rescue her and apprehend the attacker, who was carrying a knife in one of his hands.

“The people, armed with courage, with bottles and sticks, sought to intimidate the attacker, but they were more violent,” added this neighbor.

Uniformed men from the Motorized Operations Group (GOM) who arrived at the scene with the purpose of safeguarding the girl’s life managed to rescue her.

According to the first investigations, the attacker and the woman would have had a loving relationship, but she now had a sentimental relationship with another man, a 26-year-old Ecuadorian. This situation upset the ex-partner.

Previously, the perpetrator, after surprising her having fun in a local area, drew the weapon to wound the companion in the chest and then proceeded to retain it.

It transpired that the inhabitants of the sector were about to lynch the subject, but the rapid police intervention saved the life of the woman and the integrity of the detainee.

The suspect was identified as Yoseth P., 29 years old and a Venezuelan national. The victim is a 21-year-old woman of the same nationality.

A judge issued the release ticket with that scenario.

On the other hand, the National Police together with security guards from the Amazonas market thwarted an assassination attempt on a citizen, the previous Thursday night, in the La Playita market sector.

An individual of Colombian nationality, after getting off his motorcycle, pointed a firearm at a guard; however, in his attempt to shoot, the attack did not materialize.

Given this, his colleagues and police officers acted to neutralize the suspect.

The citizen was immediately apprehended, who was later placed under the orders of the competent authority. He is charged with the crime of attempted murder. The reasons that led him to provoke the attack are still unknown. (YO)
