The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has announced the nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards.
Abbott Elementary School (five nominations) was the top nominee among TV shows, and Martin McDonagh’s The Banshee of Inisherina, starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, was the most nominated film. The film is nominated for eight awards, including Best Comedy or Film. This category also includes Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Everything Everywhere, Rian Johnson’s Knives Out: The Glass Onion, and Reuben Estlund’s Triangle of Sorrow.
The nominees for Best Drama Film are James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of the Water, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, Steven Spielberg’s Fabelmans, Todd Field’s Tar, and Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick.
Best Drama Series will compete against Better Call Saul, The Crown, House of the Dragon, Ozark and Separation. The similar category for comedy series includes Abbott Elementary School, Bear, Cunning, The Same Building Murders, and Wednesday.
Nominations for Best Foreign Language Film: RRR: Revolution Roars Nearby (India), All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany), Decision to Leave (South Korea), Close (Belgium, France, Netherlands) ) and “Argentina, 1985” (Argentina).
Nominated for Best Director: James Cameron (Avatar: The Way of Water), Dan Kwan, Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere), Baz Luhrmann (Elvis), Martin McDonagh (Banshee Inisherina) and Steven Spielberg (“Fabelmans”).
The nominees were selected by 96 members of the HFPA. In addition, for the first time in the history of the organization, 103 international voters from industry organizations, renowned foreign film festivals and journalism professionals from 62 countries also participated in the selection. The Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 10th.
