Pedestrian tourist bridge over the Canoa River collapsed and left four injured

Two adults and two minors were injured as a result of the collapse of a pedestrian and tourist bridge in the Canoa parish of the San Vicente canton, Manabí province.

The event occurred this Sunday, December 11, in the afternoon.

Fernanda Loor, president of the Parish Council, alerted institutions such as the Fire Department, the Red Cross, the National Police and the Municipality about the fall of a pedestrian bridge.

The four injured people, including the two minors, received medical attention at the local health entities and have already been discharged.

Taking advantage of the fact that it was Sunday, many tourists who were in this spa came to take photos. What was an attraction became a scare when the 57-meter-long suspension bridge fell over the Canoa River, which was built in 2013.

The president of the Canoa Parish Council, Fernanda Loor, pointed out that in this period they asked the San Vicente council for the powers of the bridge to make an agreement with the Manabí Prefecture and maintain the structure, but they did not receive a response from of the mayor’s office

With controlled passage and every 20 minutes, the Cuenca-Molleturo-El Empalme road was opened

María Isabel Santana, a tourist from Manta who was with her family, said that they had been taking photos there minutes before the bridge collapsed.

Manuel Solórzano, mayor of San Vicente, once he heard the news ordered that municipal technicians carry out a report and evaluation of what happened. (YO)
