Manta expects 200,000 tourists on Christmas and New Year’s holidays and asks the Executive to reinforce security

The more than ten beaches that it has, its rich gastronomy, large pink zone and other tourist attractions make Manta one of the most visited destinations on the various holidays that take place in the country during the year.

For the Christmas and New Year holidays, the port of Manabita is expected to receive some 200,000 visitors, according to Agustín Intriago, mayor of this canton.

The municipal authority said that in Manta what happens in other locations in the country does not happen: that there are no violent attacks or a high crime rate. But he maintained that greater police support is needed, a request he made to President Guillermo Lasso during his last visit to this city on Monday of this week.

“Yes, it would be important to allocate a good police contingent, particularly to Manta, because a lot of people come and we need people to feel safe,” Intriago said in the meeting he had with the president after the delivery of the rehabilitation of the Eloy Alfaro airport.

Precisely, President Lasso indicated that he will mediate so that foreign airlines can make flights to and from Manta with destinations not only nationally, but internationally, a fact that he said he hopes will take place next January at the latest.
