Moscow sees as a misunderstanding media reports that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia this year has been cancelled. According to RIA Novosti, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that such a visit was not planned.
“I think there is some misunderstanding here. As Dmitry Peskov said, the visit of the Prime Minister was not planned this year,” Rudenko said on the sidelines of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Modi allegedly refused to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters, commenting on the publication, that there were no plans for a meeting between the President of the Russian Federation and the Prime Minister of India until the end of the year, and next year the schedule would be agreed upon.
It should be noted that in accordance with the declaration on strategic partnership of 2000, the leaders of Russia and India meet annually. In 2020, however, the meeting did not take place due to the pandemic. Putin visited New Delhi in December 2021, then held a separate meeting with Modi during the SCO summit in September.
