Getting to the historic center of Quito by private vehicle is complicated, the narrow streets form lines of traffic and the lack of public parking means that the few that exist fill up very quickly.
However, this did not stop national and foreign tourists from getting to know the area that preserves national history and culture.
Walking through the historic avenues that have been preserved since colonial times and entering the museums and churches is one of the main attractions of the capital. This year, for the 488 years of its foundation, it received a large number of visitors during the weekend and holiday, moved to Monday, December 5.
The Plaza de la Independencia, which houses the Carondelet Palace (Presidency), the Municipal Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral, were the epicenter of the visits. Through the avenues dozens of people walked in a certain hurry to access the different attractions.
Families took advantage of the local holiday to go out in large groups and tour these avenues. ATMs, cafeterias, restaurants, museums, everything had lines of people waiting their turn.
Independent vendors took advantage of the high attendance and offered different products on GarcĂa Moreno street. Theater acts, movie characters, live music, paintings with landscapes and colonial scenes, painted faces for children, among the options that tourists found on the catwalk.

Meanwhile, in other sectors of the city the atmosphere was desolate. The streets of the north center of the capital were clear, a phenomenon that is not normal, especially on a Monday.
Several stores did not open their doors, the owners decided to take advantage of the local holiday for the founding parties to rest at home.
In other characteristic places, such as the Middle of the World City, there was a good turnout. After noon, the sun went down and heavy rain came, forcing passers-by to seek shelter under roofs or terraces.
