The Government of Chile provided new data on the alleged kidnapping of the sailor from that country who lived in an area of ​​Daule.

Luis Toledo Cruces, first corporal of the Chilean navy, is living in Ecuador after getting engaged to an Ecuadorian woman. He has requested unpaid leave for two years.

Carolina Tohá, Minister of the Interior and Security of Chile, pointed out that both her portfolio, Interpol, the Ecuadorian Police, the Investigative Police and also the Ministry of Defense are working on the procedures.

The official said that there is progress in this case. “There is information both on the motives for which this kidnapping was carried out and on the people behind it. The investigation has been advancing, it has very relevant elements and procedures are being carried out to act with respect to these people involved”, Tohá asserted, according to the Chilean media that have taken an interest in this case.

According to the sailor’s spouse, when she arrived at her home on Tuesday night, she realized that her husband was not there and, although she called his cell phone, it was turned off. After going out to look for him, she did not find him and called the police.

Around midnight, she received a WhatsApp message telling her that her husband “had a serious problem, and that he wanted to know if I was going to help him.” According to the complaint, she was asking for $100,000 in ransom.

He lives in an urbanization on the road to La Aurora, in the jurisdiction of Daule, a canton neighboring Guayaquil.

The Chilean minister pointed out that they hope that “the person can recover his freedom with full physical integrity, so that he can return to be with his family.”

He explained that “kidnappings are a very particular type of crime, it has specific protocols, that is why the case devices are activated, and it also has special emergencies. Precisely, because the person is being held and controlled by the criminals who carried out this action.”

The sailor’s family has released photos of the victim in which he is seen blindfolded and with an apparent wound on one hand. In one of them he asks his mother to intervene because she does not want to die.

“I am not going to give more information about the detail, what I can say is that the police of the two countries are in contact, there is progress in the investigation and that the Government of Chile is involved through various agencies in following up and looking for a positive and prompt resolution”, added Tohá.

The sailor’s family is originally from Florida, in the Bío Bío region.
