Hospital IESS Quito Sur will increase the number of pediatric beds due to the increase in cases of Influenza and COVID-19

The Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) reported that since Saturday, December 3, the number of hospital beds in the pediatric area has increased at its Quito Sur hospital. From 64 they increased to 94 beds, and they expect the number of available places to increase to 140.

This decision was made as a contingency plan in the face of an increase in child patients with COVID-19 and Influenza. In several health houses, a new wave of infections has been reported since November, especially with respiratory diseases in minor patients.

In addition, it was reported that the number of personnel who will care for patients in the pediatric area, both doctors and nurses, will be increased.

According to the Integrated Epidemiological Surveillance System, during the last four epidemiological weeks, from November 6 to December 3, 2022, the cases of COVID-19 increased progressively in Guayas and Pichincha.
