Manta, MANABI
Two explosions were heard around midnight on Thursday by the residents of the Monterrey and Las Jacuatas neighborhoods, towns belonging to the General Eloy Alfaro parish of the Montecristi canton. The detonations came from a house with an enclosure close to those two sectors.
The explosion was heard several kilometers around, including in sectors of the Manta and Jaramijó cantons.
After learning of the alert, personnel from the Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR) carried out investigative work regarding the outbreak, which surprised. Preliminarily it was learned that there were two grenades activated outside a house with an enclosure and that much of its infrastructure suffered damage.
The Ministry of Defense does not rule out that an explosion at the Montecristi radar facilities is the product of a terrorist attack
Luis Cano, chief of the Manta Police district, said after going to the place that information was being raised about the possible explosion.
“We are with the GIR raising evidence of a detonation, apparently from an explosive device. When we have more information we will announce (…). There are no injuries or deaths,” Cano said.
Neighbors of the aforementioned neighborhoods indicated that presumably two young people who lived in that house ran out after the explosion.
Authorities announce two investigations to determine the causes of the explosion on the Montecristi hill radar
“We do not know what really happened, but we do know that there were two strong explosions that woke us up. This was not seen before, ”said a woman, who preferred to omit her identity for fear of reprisals.
Until now, the National Police has not issued an official report on what happened in the house in the Montecristense neighborhood, nor has it asserted that it was a possible threat against the owners of the affected house. (YO)
