The graduate or graduate has a training of skills to work in a specific area of public and private health services, with professional skills to care for the patient, says Dr. Rosangela Caicedo Quiroz, dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Services of the ITB .

“(The graduate) provides basic nursing care by specialty to healthy people, sick people, family and community, at the three levels of health care; with responsibility, ethical, moral, political and ideological principles, as a member of a nursing team”, adds Caicedo Quiroz.

This technician is the ideal person to integrate multidisciplinary health teams, since he becomes a therapeutic instrument and a technical expert to work at the three levels of health care, with an emphasis on the community, says the dean.

Espíritu Santo University Technological (TES), in Guayaquil, is another of the institutions with growing demand in the Higher Technician in Nursing career. Health professionals transfer their knowledge to students, in addition to teaching and using up-to-date technological tools and equipment in the workplace.

“The student will be able to assess and identify changes in a patient’s health, will be able to administer safe medication, will be able to move around the surgical area, among other areas. The Higher Technician in Nursing can share their knowledge in hospitals or health centers where they can apply all their skills to the work of a nurse”, says Luissana Jiménez Fuentes, director of the Higher Technician in Nursing program at TES.

The Argos University Technological promotes the training of senior health technicians in technical careers in Nursing, Medical Emergencies, Comprehensive Care for the Elderly, Comprehensive Child Development and Physical Rehabilitation.

Its students strengthen their classroom training with the community outreach project called Medical Brigades, where they bring free preventive health care under the direction of their teachers. From January 2021 to April 2022, 2,827 patients in rural areas of the provinces of Guayas and Los Ríos have benefited.

The importance of empathy and communication with the patient are essential aspects in the training and development of students’ soft and professional skills. Since the nurse is the one who takes care of the physical and emotional integrity of the one who is caring for her, we cannot leave her needs aside
